According to information provided by the CDC, the Zika virus is spreading. The most common symptoms are fever, a rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (pink eye). The outbreaks originated in South America, but active transmission has been reported in Mexico and is expected to spread to the United States. While the illness itself is not usually serious, the major concern is for pregnant women giving birth to babies with severe complications.  The World Health Organization has declared a global emergency and is warning travelers to take precautions when visiting areas affected by Zika.  Please contact your healthcare provider if you have questions about your health.
